Traditional work

This is a collection of projects and pieces I have created over the last few years using more traditional means, ranging from drawings to paintings.

Self Portrait,

Fall 2022

A realistic Self Portrait I drew in graphite pencil for a Foundation Drawing Class.

For this art project, I drew a self portrait using both a mirror and picture of myself. I utilized a grid system to get accurate proportioning of the facial features. The goal of this assignment was to practice drawing realistic portraiture and shading.

Gray-scale Painting,

Spring 2022

An art piece I designed and painted with gouache paints for my Color and Composition Class.

In my second term of college, I was tasked to learn a new medium, gouache. For this project, I was instructed to create an interesting composition with 3 dimensional shapes and then shade those shapes using a gray scale I mixed myself.

Exploration of Symmetry,

Spring 2022

An A-symmetrical and Symmetrical design I designed and painted with black gouache for my Color and Composition Class.

Tri-Color Pallet Painting,

Spring 2022

A Split Complementary Pallet art piece I designed and painted with gouache paints for my Color and Composition Class final.

For this project, I was challenged with designing a mythical creature made from two to three real animals and painting them over an interesting background. The creature I designed was a mix of an axolotl and a macaw and I painted a flooded field of sunflowers in front of a castle for the background.

Linear Perspective Drawing,

Fall 2022

A linear perspective, contour drawing of a hallway done in graphite pencil for my Foundation Drawing Class.

For this drawing, I was tasked with drawing a room or hallway using linear perspective. While the hallway I used was quite crowded, it was perfect practice for drawing unusual 3 dimensional shapes in a liner perspective.

Reductive Charcoal Drawing,

Fall 2022

A Charcoal drawing done in a reductive drawing style for my Foundation Drawing Class.

For this project, I colored an entire sheet of paper with a charcoal stick and buffed it out with a tissue paper. From there, I studied and sketched a glass figurine I had on hand. I then erased sections that needed to be lighter and layered more charcoal on sections that needed to be darker.

Abstract Drawing,

Fall 2022

An abstract drawing done in color pencils for my Foundation Drawing Class.

With this project, I was challenged to create an interesting composition, while making sure the image did not resemble any actual subject. As abstract is not a genre of art I pursue regularly, this art piece was sort of a challenge for me. I chose to focus on very basic forms and shapes, and then add textures to make the piece still very visually interesting.

Realistic Colored Drawing,

Fall 2022

A realistic drawing of a Disney Nuimo doll done in colored pencil for my Foundation Drawing Class.

With this drawing, I was tasked to color and shade a realistic drawing of an item found around my house. I choose this doll as my subject because it had a lot of interesting shaded bits when sat in natural light.

Fun fact, I designed and hand-sewed the overalls this doll is wearing.

Expressionism Drawing,

Fall 2022

An expressionist drawing done in charcoal in a reductive style for my Foundation Drawing Class.

With this project, I was tasked with creating an expressionist piece. I used my friend as a model for the drawing and turned this project into a chance to exercise layering and negative space usage. I think the subject speaks less to my personal feelings and more to my feelings about humanity with an eldritch twist.

Shading Drawing,

Fall 2022

This is my midterm project for my Foundation Drawing Class, done in charcoal with a reductive drawing style.

With this project coming towards the end of my class’s study into light/shading, I was challenged with drawing and shading a complex figure surrounded by a couple of eggs.

For clarification, the subject is an oddly shaped teapot surrounded by eggs my doves had laid, as those were all I had on hand.

Visual Interpretation: Lavender Forever,

Fall 2022

My final project for my Foundation Drawing Class, it features a mix of charcoal, graphite, and colored pencils.

For my final project, my professor instructed me to choose a song and make a visual interpretation of it, whether that be based off the melody, lyrics, themes. I chose the song Lavender Forever by Jake Wesley Rogers, and my interpretation of it is based on a mix of themes and lyrics.

I could go further into detail, but I think the image speaks for itself.

Visual Interpretation:

Dirty Night Clowns,

Fall 2023

This is my midterm project for my Heads and Hands Drawing Class, done in charcoal and pastels.

Similar to my Lavender Forever Final Project, I was given the task of interpreting a song visually for a class midterm. The only requirements given to me, was that my piece must feature at least one head and two hands. I chose to use the song Dirty Night Clowns by Chris Garneau, which was a song I originally chose not to go with in a previous class due to it’s very dark story.

I’m glad that I waited on this song and came back to it, as I feel like had I done it earlier, I would not have done it justice.

Holding Liquid Gold,

Fall 2023

A piece for my Heads and Hands Drawing Class, this drawing was done entirely in compressed pastel sticks.

While my Heads and Hands class was heavily rooted in observational study and drawing live models, I found myself wanting more of a challenge. This challenge was inspired by my Composition and Drawing Professor, who often challenged us in his class to put our live models into one environment.

Through some luckily thematic prop usage, this image came to me very easily. I spent about an hour or two after my class had ended to finished up this piece.

Hands On Hazel,

Fall 2023

This is my final project for my Heads and Hands Drawing Class, done in compressed pastel sticks.

For my Heads and Hands final, I was tasked with creating a composition that showed a connection between man and nature. This final featured similar requirements to the midterm project I did for this same class.

This piece was very important for me to do, as I decided I wanted to end off my first term at ArtCenter with a self portrait and featuring my personal project, Behind Hazel’s House, seemed only right. In the drawing, I stand above Hazel wearing the outfit of my story’s well-intentioned villain, the personification of Death. We’re surrounded by flower sprites, each flower featured is known for having meanings symbolic of unity, devotion, and purity; which describes my relationship with this project.

Color Harmonies: Through the Night Garden,

Fall 2023

My final project for my Design 1 Class, a four part painting done in gouache paints with the intended effect of translucency.

For my final project, my professor instructed me to create four paintings, each with a different color harmony and utilized the effect of translucency. I took it upon myself to connect these paintings to create a display that I’d want on my wall. The color harmonies I explored (from left to right) were Complementary, Analogous, Triadic Complementary, and Monochromatic.

SketchBook

A collection of sketchbook pages and individual drawings dating all the way back to 2016, my Eighth grade year. They’ll be ordered from newest to oldest to put my best foot forward, but also to showcase the progression of my work from my youth.

Let’s work together.
